FITNESS ACTIVITIES

Nordic Walking

Guided walks in the beautiful Mortimer Forest (approx. 5 minutes drive from the hotel).
Learn to Nordic Walk with a fully-qualified Nordic Walking instructor. Walks suitable for all ages and abilities - corporate groups welcome. Walks from 1½ to 3 hours at £35 per hour - Nordic Walking poles provided. Groups of four.

If you fancy a bit of exercise during your stay, Pulse Health and Fitness offers a fully equipped fitness studio for personal training and small group sessions up to four people. (Approx. 5 minutes drive from the hotel).

Walks & Cycle Rides
Walks and Cycle Rides Ludlow is surrounded by some of the country’s most beautiful countryside which makes it ideal for hiking and bike rides. There are four cycle rides in and around Ludlow, and for those wanting something more challenging you could try the cycle rides Bishop Castle has to offer which include climbing the Long Mynd. Ask at Reception about cycle hire.


Carding Mill Valley

Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd have breathtaking views over the Shropshire and
Cheshire Plains and the Black Mountains and is ideal for walking with miles of paths and bridleways.

Wenlock Edge

A wooded escarpment near the village of Much Wenlock where you will find an array of ancient woodland and flower rich grassland. The limestone in this area is famous internationally as an example of old coral deposits. You can enjoy miles of walks along shaded paths with dramatic views across the Shropshire countryside.

PLACES TO VISIT

Ludlow Castle

One of the finest ruined medieval castles set in the heart of the town. Walk through the grounds and see the ancient houses of kings, queens and princes. The castle began life as a Norman Fortress and has been extended over the centuries to become a fortified Royal Palace securing Ludlow’s place in English history.

Ludlow Museum

Situated on the market square next to Tourist Information, the museum specialises in the geology of Ludlow and the surrounding areas, including some discoveries which are internationally famous. The museum also tells the story of the people who have lived and worked in the area from the Bronze Age to the present day.

Ludlow Markets

Run every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday throughout the year. Stalls include fruit and vegetables, cheese, fish and meat counters, plants, clothing and jewellery. Specialised local produce markets run every 2nd Thursday of every month and focus on seasonal produce.


Antiques, Collectables & Galleries 

Ludlow is known its many antique and collectables shops, for directions or information on any these please ask at Reception.


Ludlow Assembly Rooms

This is an arts and community venue offering a range of high quality arts, entertainment events and activities to suit a wide range of people and ages. Formally a ballroom, the Main Auditorium is now used as a cinema and theatre, for a listing of films and productions please ask at Reception.

Berrington Hall

A 17th century mansion house with painted ceilings and French Regency furniture set within landscaped parkland designed by ‘Capability’ Brown. The parklands include a 14 acre lake and island, which is now a site of Special Scientific Interest, and a walled garden with a historic collection of old apple trees.

Croft Castle and Parkland

A 17th Century Castle with a turbulent past with a decorative gothic interior, surrounded by magnificent parkland. You can see 14 counties from the Iron Age Hill Fort at Croft Ambrey.

Witley Court

A hundred years ago, Witley Court was one of England’s great country houses, hosting many extravagant parties. Today it is a spectacular ruin, the result of a disastrous fire in 1937. The vast and rambling remains of the palatial 19th-century mansion are surrounded by magnificent landscaped gardens – the ‘Monster Work’ of William Nesfield – which still contain huge stone fountains. The largest, representing Perseus and Andromeda, which has been restored, was described as making the ‘noise of an express train’ when fired.

FOR CHILDREN

Acton Scott

An historic working farm set over 20 acres of farmland. See a variety of rare breed farm animals including Tamworth pigs, Shropshire sheep and Longhorn cattle. Demonstrations on Victorian farming run daily, including butter-making in the Dairy. Watch the shire horses work the land and provide power for the farm machinery and transport, whilst the blacksmith and farrier keep the farm working. A wide range of events take place at the farm throughout the season, please ask at Reception for further information.

Severn Valley Railway

A full-size standard gauge railway line running steam-hauled passenger trains between Kidderminster (Worcestershire) and Bridgenorth (Shropshire), a distance of 16 miles. The route follows closely the River Severn for most of the way, with some great views over the valley only visible from the line. There are seven stops on the line, all of which give you access to the local villages and riverside walks. Each weekend in December Santa Steam specials run up and down the line, with children getting to meet Santa and receive presents.

Ironbridge

ANNUAL EVENTS


Ludlow Food & Drink Festival

Held every year in September in the grounds of Ludlow Castle and focusing on food and drink from the Ludlow Marches and the surrounding area. Take part in the famous sausage and real ale trails, watch the top chefs from the area do demonstrations and talks.

Ludlow Festival

Takes place at over the last week in June and first two weeks of July, Shakespeare plays in the castle, talks and poetry evenings, a fireworks display and last night concert.
